Welcome to Saint Thomas the Apostle School located in Bloomfield, New Jersey. Our doors are open to children of every race, religious belief, and national and ethnic origin. When you enroll your child, we anticipate and welcome your entire family as new and important members of our community.

We thrive as a result of a family and school partnership. Our faculty relies on the family as the primary educator, an educator with a daily and cooperative role.

Our programs are challenging as well as rich in diversity. Our curriculum is steeped in the Roman Catholic tradition. Besides the core curriculum, we offer Character Development, Spanish, Italian, Music, Synergistics, Computer, Art, Physical Education, and Library. Students participate in a host of extra-curricular programs that include social action and community service, peer tutoring, forensics, scouting, chess, and a variety of musical, literary, and academic clubs as well as our year round athletic programs.

Saint Thomas the Apostle School first opened its doors in September, 1940, staffed by Sisters of Charity of St. Elizabeth, Convent Station. Time has brought many changes, but through all of them, our purpose has remained steadfast. Saint Thomas the Apostle is still committed to the mandate “To teach as Jesus did,” providing for the development of the whole child in a nurturing, family-like atmosphere.

Mission Statement

Saint Thomas the Apostle School, a parish school including pre-kindergarten through eighth grade, under the sponsorship of the Archdiocese of Newark, is committed to the Roman Catholic tradition of education. We integrate Christian and family values with a challenging academic curriculum based on the core standards set by the Archdiocese of Newark. We emphasize respect for God, respect for self, and respect for others, as well as positive character development and scholastic achievement to guide our students in their growth and development as future leaders of the Catholic Church and the wider community.

Philosophy

The administration, clergy, faculty, staff, and families of Saint Thomas the Apostle School believe:

  1. That each child is special and can achieve success and make a difference.
  2. That each child must be encouraged to be proud of their family, faith, and ethnic and racial heritage and to appreciate and respect that of their neighbors.
  3. That parents and teachers serve as partners in educating each child.
  4. That the ability and freedom to teach the tenets and moral values of Roman Catholicism are what make Catholic schools unique.
  5.  That each child should realize that they are an important member of the school community with talents and gifts that are valued and encouraged.
  6.  That each child is entitled to learn in a safe, hurt-free environment.
  7. That each child must understand and practice the pillars of character development: respect, responsibility, caring, friendship, tolerance, honesty, courage, cooperation, service, and citizenship.
  8. That each child must be prepared to understand the global relationships that exist among the people of our world.
  9. That each child must appreciate the freedom and opportunities that they have and show pride in their country.
  10. That each child understands his/her role in helping to make the world a better place for all.
